The answer changes the tools. If your house dates from the rebuild and its wood-burning fireplace is a factory-made unit vented by metal pipe, that pipe is swept with poly brushes sized to the pipe and never with steel wire. A brick fireplace on an older street nearby takes stiffer brushes and a look at the clay tiles. We do not assume either: the technician identifies the system at the hearth before a single rod goes up.
