Why bother in Fauntleroy? Because the housing is old enough for the brick to have lost its fired skin, and the neighborhood faces weather. The Census ZIP code area around the cove counts roughly half of its housing units as built before 1960. Then moisture that got in through the crown or a joint cannot get back out, and the brick face lifts off in flakes. A repellent that breathes avoids that trap. It also needs renewing: we tell owners to expect three to five years from a coat, less on the face that takes the weather.
