Delridge, King County
Clearing a dryer vent in a Delridge home costs between $105 and $295. Our quickest jobs are a few feet of duct straight out a basement or main-floor wall. A duct that climbs through two floors to the roof, one that snakes through a ceiling or a party wall, or an outlet blocked by a bird's nest takes more time and lands near the top. We work from both ends, dryer and outside hood, and an anemometer reading at the hood, taken twice, puts the improvement in numbers instead of adjectives.

Dryers produce two things that a duct has to carry away: lint and warm, wet air. When lint builds up, the air slows, the dryer runs longer, the heating element or burner works harder and the lint nearest the heat gets hotter. That is the chain that turns a dirty duct into a fire risk and a high energy bill at the same time. Plastic or foil accordion ducts make it worse, because their ridges catch lint and they crush easily behind the machine.
Seattle's wetter season runs from October 10 to April 30 by WeatherSpark's account, and January is its cloudiest month. Across the lowlands bordering the Sound, WRCC's state narrative lists January highs of about 41 to 45 degrees, and lows between 28 and 32 degrees.
A dryer pushes warm air loaded with water vapor into a duct that, for most of those months, runs through cool attics, crawl spaces and outside walls. Some of that vapor condenses inside, and damp lint sticks and packs far more readily than dry lint. That is why vents in this climate can clog faster in winter than the number of loads would suggest, and why we clear them all the way to the hood rather than only at the machine.
Every dryer vent cleaning we do in Delridge includes:
Smoke coming back into the room, or a smell that won't go? Book the inspection first.
Book nowA newer house or townhouse may put the laundry wherever the plan allows: upstairs, in a closet, against a shared wall. That convenience often means a long vent run with several turns, sometimes ending on the roof where nobody looks at it. Older houses have their own problem, a dryer installed decades after the house was built and vented by whatever route was easiest at the time. Both kinds end up with lint packed where it cannot be seen until airflow drops off.
With a load tumbling, we take an air-speed reading where the vent exits the house; that is our starting figure.
The dryer is pulled out, the transition duct checked and the route of the vent traced to its end.
A spinning brush on flexible rods works from each end in turn, vacuum running, with extra care at elbows where lint packs.
We reconnect with a rigid or semi-rigid metal transition, run the dryer, and measure again.
Delridge's ZIP-level Census tabulation has a median build year of 1981, the youngest of any West Seattle ZIP area, and about 32 percent of its housing units went up in 2000 or later. About 13 percent of all units are attached single-family homes, the townhouse type, where laundry may sit on an upper floor.
Upper-floor laundry and shared walls tend to mean longer vents with more elbows, and sometimes a termination on the roof. Each elbow adds resistance and is a place for lint to settle. On these houses we trace the full run before we start, and if it is longer than the dryer's manufacturer allows, we tell you, because no amount of cleaning will make an overlong vent work properly.

Delridge is a valley neighborhood between the two ridges of West Seattle, on Longfellow Creek, with homes of mixed ages, about a fifth of those in its ZIP code area from the 1940s and 1950s and nearly a third built since 2000. We work every part of it — Pigeon Point, Youngstown, Cottage Grove, Puget Ridge, Riverview included.

For many homes, yes; heavy laundry use or a long duct shortens it. The air-speed reading tells you better than a calendar.
Yes, if the roof can be reached safely. Roof terminations are often the dirtiest because no one sees them, and their screens clog quickly.
